New CCTV Cameras in our Downtown Core

Official Statement from the Orono D.B.I.A.

The Orono DBIA is pleased to announce the installation of a new CCTV camera in our downtown core, a project made possible through a strong partnership between the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS), the Province of Ontario, the Municipality of Clarington, and the Orono DBIA.

This initiative was supported through the Community Safety and Innovation Officer (CSIO) grant, submitted by DRPS on behalf of the Orono DBIA and our fellow Clarington BIAs. The grant provided funding for 50% of the installation costs, with the remaining expenses shared jointly by the Municipality of Clarington and the Orono DBIA. DRPS will continue to manage all ongoing maintenance and operational requirements associated with the camera.

The new CCTV unit is intended primarily as a deterrent to criminal activity, while also serving as a valuable tool to assist police in resolving incidents when they occur. The Orono DBIA is proud to have collaborated with our police service and all levels of government to enhance safety in our community. Together, we are committed to ensuring that Orono remains a welcoming, vibrant, and secure place to live, work, and visit.
